This is my first read of Renee Bess' work. I enjoyed it so much that I have added her first two books (`Breaking Jaie' and `Leave of Absence') to my Amazon wish list.
Sasha Lewis is a lovely, organized, thoughtful woman who is in a bad situation. Her partner Lee is verbally and emotionally abusive, almost to the point of insanity. Top this off with Lee's repeated affairs with other women and the reader can certainly get angry at the character. Finally giving up hope of ever having a healthy relationship, Sasha breaks things off. Lee goes ballistic and makes it her life's mission to gain revenge. In the meantime, Sasha becomes more familiar with Avery Sloan, a client of her own. Unsure of exactly what the situation is, Avery doesn't know how to respond to Sasha, but she is sure that she's undeniably attracted to the other woman and wants to help in any way she can.
This is one of the only true romances I've read in a long time. Sasha and Avery actually fall in love before their relationship advances to anything more. They take their time and deal with the past before they begin to plan a future together. These are both very likable and believable characters. The same is true of how unlikable Lee and her new lover are.
Bottom Line - Great book!
