5 out of 5 stars Great refresher!   January 5, 2009
I took a college costume class many years ago and forgot a lot of the sewing basics between then and now. AMH's book is a great refresher for those looking to get back into sewing or for those just learning how to sew. The projects are lovely, practical, and not too overwhelming. The book is beautiful to look at. And her writing style is engaging, as anyone who reads her blog knows already. I read through the whole thing in a night and can't wait to dive into my first project.

2 out of 5 stars Dissapointing   January 2, 2009

This book is really beautiful to look at, but at the end of the day, there is nothing new in this book that you can't already find anywhere online for free. The projects are just re-hashed projects that other bloggers have posted on their own website. I'm a huge fan of Anna's blog and her fabric designs. She is one of my favorite designers and comes up with really beautiful projects that she shows on her website; but none of those projects/designs or that level of creativity is in this book. If I'm paying 25 bucks for a book on sewing, I want it to be filled with new projects that aren't already available in an Amy Butler design book or any other book/blog. This was really disappointing.

I love the fabrics, design and visuals in the book. I had high expectations of the info but was sadly disappointed. Sorry to say I expected much more from the book.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful and inspirational book!   December 13, 2008

If you're looking for a book to inspire you, this is the one. It has gorgeous imagery and creative projects at all skill levels. For newer sewers, it does have great guidance about choosing fabrics and other basic information presented in a clearly written and much more beautiful way than other beginners' books I've seen.

There are some patterns included in a folder at the end of the book, which is great. I love the purses (great gift ideas!) and the skirts, which work well for kids or for yourself. And I particularly love the projects that turn fabric into works of art.

If you love Anna Maria's blog, you'll love this book!

5 out of 5 stars Great Book - Instructional and Inspiring!   December 11, 2008

I love Anna Maria's blog and have followed it for some time. I was very excited for her book and it has not disappointed! Of course it is beautifully designed, well-organized and easy to read. Perfect for people who don't know much about sewing, but also contains fun and inspiring projects for people who already know how to sew. The book also includes 10 original patterns, which is super helpful. Definitely worth the money and a nice book to add to your sewing library!
