| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Appropriate for introductory Computer Science courses using C++ (CS1 with C++) and other introductory programming courses using C++. The authors introduce key ideas behind computing with C++ and object-oriented programming in an intuitive and non-intimidating way. This text not only teaches text-based programming, but also graphical/internet programming. In addition, this text provides an introduction to computer science as a discipline.

1 Very important detail left out for self-studiers October 17, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
5 star's because its one of the few books that has been helping grasp C++.
1 star due to;
C++: An Introduction to Computing, 3/E, is a good book and I like the style. However it is a college/University text book. With this university text you can not get the answers or source code to the programming problems or the quizzes specific to this book.
Those glowing reviews do not mention this, Which ultimately precipitated me into buying this book. At 80 dollars full price, that was an expensive mistake.
I have also tried to contact the author to no avail. There is a mention on the author's website to contact the publisher to obtain a source/code CD. I called the publisher; they said they will not send the source CD is unless you are an instructor for this course or a certified home school instructor.
Great Book October 27, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have the older version, though. The best C++ book I've ever used.
Great book for beginners July 11, 2000 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was recommended to buy this book when I was doing first course on C++. First time I saw it, I didn't really like it because it looked just like other books on shelves. If you look closely what this book provides, you'll see how worthwhile it is. C++ is huge and it is impossible to learn all of it in one book, however this book does provide most fundamental features of C++ that beginners need to know. Also, the book is not just how to program C++ but it covers good programming pactice and some ideas beyond how to programOne thing most readers should point out is the presentation of the book is really poor. The authors use too many different background and font colours in one page. This is really annoying. If you are a biginner and you don't care about this, it's good investment to buy this book.
Great Beginer and Intermediet Book on C++ October 7, 1999 3 out of 8 found this review helpful
I was the T.A. of a High School C++ programing class this book was an exelent learning tool for the first and second year class.
Amazing, excellent, a great effort indeed. October 5, 1999 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I am an electrical engineer. I tried many books to learn & understand C++. There is a lot of 24hrs,21 days & unleashed stuff out there but this book is amazing. The best thing about this book is its approach towards computing, how it builds up. When you start reading from cover to cover, everything is the basis of next thing to come. First i was amazed seeing its sequence of topics, as compared to other books on the subject it was completely different and now i know why. Most of the books on C++ usually have classes and advanced topics very early (that's why people complain C++ is complex); but this book gives you a very solid foundation to understand these topics. I never thought C++ was so easy.
