YOU WILL LOVE THIS. I searched for this book after reading online reviews and convinced my language school to buy it. It is fantastic! You will learn the basic structures and vocabulary of German by focusing on the four skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The material and subject matter is targeted at the beginning college student, but is suitable for adult study in class or even on your own.
The textbook is great; the multimedia CD-ROM, workbook, and audio CDs are a must. The entire system is integrated so it all works together. There is plenty to do alone, with a partner, in groups, in class, and on your own time. The characters and subject matter are integrated across the materials. You read about it in the book, work on it in the class, work in the workbook using class material and the CDs, and watch the video and answer questions and play games on the CD-ROM. Everything reinforces everything else across the materials. It is up to date with the latest spellings and grammar rules. This is the best class material or individual system out there even if you are learning German on your own.

My wife and I are learning German professionally for 20 hours/week plus 5-10 hours of homework. We love Neue Horizonte 6th Edition and so does our teacher. We are learning German in an organized way, with useful material that is easy to understand and remember. Even the video on the exceptional CD-ROM was shot on location in Berlin around 2002, so it is very current. Be SURE to buy the textbook, the audio CDs, the workbook/laboratory manual, and the multimedia CD-ROM. I can't say enough about this fully integrated system - you'll be glad you did and you WILL learn German.

This is, without a doubt, the best introductory German Text there is. I have tried several and this one answers my questions. I have tried many systems and this is the one. If your school did not select this one, buy it for yourself. Of course, you will need the CD's and the Workbook but if you insist on learning German this is the way.
